1st overnight trip of 2011

Well Saturday mornng we leave for Syracuse and a date with 4th ranked Lemoyne. Lemoyne jons D2 dropping down from D1 ths season. They are a very talented team and lost a tough game to Adelph yesterday in wild Central NY weather. Not looking forward to the bus ride but whoever does. Kind of interested in how the girls do on this trip. DVDs are ready so should be fun arguing over which ones we will be watching on the rde up and ride back. This is the furthest north I have been in NY since being at the States in 2005. We had a good practice today. Well will get back to you next week.,

Underway

Well it seems like yesterday that we were complaining about the snow and having to scramble to find practice time and here we sit 4-1. We put the finishing touches on a 2-0 weekend with a total team effort in a 20-3 victory today. Overall today was by far the best game we have played as a team this season. Emily Antonette continued her torrid start with 3 more goals today. Mel Sosnowski and Hayley Lacey are starting to gel and now they seem to connect on many plays. Our defense played awesome today started out a bit out of sync but they came together and after surrending 2 goals they shut Philadelphia down until way late in the second half beore they scored their 3rd and final goal on the contest. Danielle Clesi who we moved from midfield to get her more time is fast growing as a defender and made a save today on a free position when Jackie Bove our goalie was called for charging. It really put a cap on the day seeing her do that. Christina Metelenis played 2 of the best games she has played here at Molloy. She really has grown as a player. We have a long week of practice and take our first overnight trip of the year. I will be back soon.

Season has started

Well Mother Nature has cooperated sort of and the season is underway. We opened last week with 2 wins. 19-12 over St Anselms a game which saw Emily Antonette score 7 goals and MAria Varricchio and Alexa Toscano each notch 4. Jackie Bove played a strong game in net making 17 saves which was a career high actually each girl achieved career highs that day. Sunday morning the heavens opened and dropped alot of rain on the Island. Thought it was going to be a soaker all day but it slowed down enough to get us through the game a 16-12 win over Bloomsburg. A team that last year beat us and that loss kept us out of the running for an NCAA bid. They are well coached and a good team. Mel Sosnowski had a huge game and put 7 goals behind their goalie. Emily Antonette had 5 more goals pushing her season total to 12. We kept up the good work on the circle and are averaging over 18 draw controls a game. The defense has bent alot but they haven't broken so they will improve as they get use to playing with each other. This week we have New Haven a team very much like us in so many ways. Well I am trying to get the girls to contribute but I think they would much rather do their school work than write something for the blog. Today is Fat Tuesday have a big meal and enjoy

Let the games begin

Ok so we have officially ended the scrimage part of our season and its time to start getting ready for the opener on Thursday March 3. We scrimmaged Farmingdale State, Mt St Vincent and the Wales National Team. We started out very slow and got it going from there. Farmingdale has improved alot over last season. We dominated game 2 against Mt St Vincent. The final contest of the day was against the Welsh. They played very hard and did some things that I was glad to see them do. They pressure our girls which sometimes is not an easy thing to do in practice. Our girls responded and really did a great job. Alot of girls are showing us some real good things. We still tend to shoot high which can be frustrating at times. Well I am hoping that the girls will start contributing to this blog. Will report back after the opener.

so its been way too long

So we finally got outside. Talk about making a poor decision. I was asked by the department if I wanted some indoor time. Having been around for a long time as a lacrosse coach I said no. Well thanks to snow, snow and more snow we finally hit the field. This will never happen again. I have already begun to look at next year. Well enough about what I should of could of done. We went out on Saturday and scrimmaged LIU, Iona and Wagner and while the scoreboard will show that we lost. There were many wins on the day. We had the opportunity as a staff to see what we need to work on so for that alone we scored a huge win. Scrimmages never hurt you they can only help you. Especially if you come out of them with no injuries. Overall we made mistakes but most of them are fixable. We got strong performances from many of the girls. Some of our returnees need to take a look at their performances and improve on them. We now have 2 weeks before our next scrimmage. 5 days after that our season officially opens. There are things that we will attack this week in our preparation. Very happy so far with the squad. Speak to all of you soon.

Surprise Surprise

Welcome to the opening of lacrosse season. Or as we like to say here on LI snow season. I have been coaching this psort for a few years and it never fails snow on the ground time to scramble and figure out where are we going to practice. Well thanks to our wonderful athletic dept. they have made arrangements for us to go indoors. The girls are so excited at the thought of practicing at 6am hey it will build character. Sometimes you have to adapt and we shall. They have worked very hard on conditioning so a little snow pushing them indoors until either mother nature or the village clears the field. I am guessing it will be the village first. Mother nature would have to work very hard to clear 2 storms worth of snow. Hopefully this week we will start hearing from the girls on a weekly basis. Trying to get them involved in posting. Well motto for this year is One Team One Heart looking forward to hear that beat. See you soon.

and now a word from our goalie

So we had our first week of conditioning. With the snow on the ground, we put our snow boots on, we shoveled our cars out and off to Molloy we went. It felt great to be back with the girls after having a few short weeks off for finals and the holidays. It was great spending time with my family for those few short weeks, but now I am back with my other family; my team. We pushed one another to work harder each day. It felt great to have that feeling again. The feeling of knowing that when you turn around, there are 32 other girls behind you. The feeling of knowing that when I take a step they will too. The feeling of knowing that when I am struggling and need a boost that I have my sisters behind me to push me to the top. We had a great season last year finishing 15-2. I happy to see how much talent and potential we have. We have about 65 days until our first game. That is 65 days of working hard TOGETHER as a team to succeed. We have the weekend off, and it is New Years weekend. I am looking forward to a great 2011 season, even though it will be bittersweet being the last season for us seniors playing as Lady Lions. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and successful New Year. Your one and only Bovie the goalie This entry was written by senior captain and goalie Jackie Bove
